Sanju Samson continued his blistering form to notch up yet another half-century against England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup. Samson scored 89 runs off 41 balls to put India in control against England at the Wankhede Stadium.

Having put into bat by England, India lost Abhishek Sharma early, but Samson continued being aggressive in the Powerplay and helped India post 67 runs for the loss of one wicket at the end of the sixth over.

Samson, along with Ishan Kishan, steadied the Indian ship in the typical aggressive way that the Indian fans have gotten used to seeing under the leadership of Surya Kumar Yadav. The duo put on a 97-run partnership for the second wicket to put India in a dominating position.

Samson was joined by another left-hander, Shivam Dube, as the Indian team tried to navigate Adil Rashid's spin. The Kerala-born star took his time against the spinners but dominated against the pacers, with a flat six over Jamie Overton's head being the highlight of his innings.

At the halfway stage of the innings, India were going strong at 119 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, with Samson and Dube at the crease. The duo put on 43 runs in double-quick time before Samson was dismissed by Will Jacks, having put India in a commanding position at 160 runs for the loss of three wickets in the 14th over

Sanju Samson has revived India's World Cup hope

After being dropped for the initial matches of the World Cup, Sanju Samson has emerged as India's most crucial player at the T20 World Cup 2026. With Abhishek Sharma not in form and the middle-order misfiring, the onus was on Samson to deliver, and the former Rajasthan Royals captain did it in style.

Samson played a match-winning innings of 97 unbeaten against the West Indies in what was a virtual quarter-final at the Eden Gardens. With wickets falling at crucial stages, Samson held on his own and powered India to a memorable win.

After his unbeaten 97, Samson has added yet another feather in his cap by scoring 89 runs in a World Cup semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium. With Samson now back to his blistering best, the Indian fans will hope that he can guide us to back-to-back T20 World cups.
