Sharad Pawar is set to be elected unopposed to the post of Mumbai Cricket Association&rsquo;s (MCA) president after his opponent Gopinath Munde&rsquo;s nomination was rejected on Saturday on the grounds that the BJP veteran is not a permanent resident of Mumbai. <img alt="Gopinath Munde" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/oct/Gopinath-Munde_1.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 474px;" /> Gopinath Munde An objection over Munde&rsquo;s residency was raised by Vile Parle Sports Club&rsquo;s CT Sanghvi, after which Election Officer SM Gorwadkar looked into the issue. Munde is a Beed resident. Munde and Pawar were the only two contenders in the fray after Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan failed to file his nomination for the October 18 polls. Joint Honorary Secretary of the MCA, Nitin Dalal told SUNDAY MiD DAY: &ldquo;One of our clubs brought this issue to our notice and we forwarded the objection to the Election Officer who found that Munde was a resident of Beed. So, as per the rules Munde cannot contest the polls.&rdquo; <img alt="Sharad Pawar" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/oct/Sharad-Pawar_1.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 356px;" /> Sharad Pawar Sheikh Shah Alam, the secretary of Stylo Cricketers, from where Munde had filed his nomination, said: &ldquo;I have received the letter intimating us of Mr Munde&rsquo;s nomination being rejected. I have forwarded it to him and he will now decide on the further course of action.&rdquo; Can appeal till October 15 Munde can appeal the Election Officer&rsquo;s decision till October 15. Interestingly, Pawar&rsquo;s nomination for the president&rsquo;s post too was rejected on the same grounds before the 2011 MCA polls as the NCP strongman was then a Baramati resident. Vilasrao Deshmukh eventually became the MCA president then, beating former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar.
