Fans soon joined in with their own witty remarks. One user joked, “Heard Bumrah is not available for the next test and we need a replacement...There is a perfect candidate (sic),” referring to India’s upcoming Test against England starting July 2. Another quipped, “Mom's target never misses."

Despite his stellar form in the IPL 2025 season, where he amassed 604 runs at a blistering strike rate of 175.07, smashing 39 sixes and recording six half-centuries, Iyer finds himself absent from the Indian squad for the ongoing five-Test tour of England. This omission, despite his consistency, sparked widespread debate among cricket enthusiasts.
Iyer’s domestic credentials this season were equally compelling. He led Mumbai to victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and oversaw a steady Ranji Trophy campaign. His exploits in the Irani Cup were particularly noteworthy, racking up 699 runs in nine First-Class matches, including two centuries, that many believed made a strong case for his inclusion in the Test side.
Following the conclusion of the IPL, Iyer continued to stay match-fit by representing the Mumbai Falcons in the Mumbai T20 League. However, despite his outstanding performances across formats, the selectors opted to look elsewhere for the England series.
Iyer is now expected to return to the national fold during India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh, which begins on August 17.
