The European champions entered the semi-finals where they are likely to meet Brazil or Italy. With the hard fought victory Spain, who have not been beaten since November 2006, matched the record of 14 straight victories held by Australia, Brazil and France. They also moved to within one win of equalling the 35-match unbeaten run by Brazil between (1993-1996).
