Ishan Kishan came into the limelight when, in December 2022, he played a marvelous knock of 210 runs off 131 balls against Bangladesh, becoming the youngest cricketer to score an ODI double century. At that time, it seemed India had found a long-term wicketkeeper-batter for all three formats. But it was not to be, as poor form and commitment issues dogged him thereafter. He was asked by the BCCI to prove his commitment by playing in domestic cricket.

He did mend his ways and has now been rewarded with a place in the India ‘A’ team touring England next week, mainly because of his unbeaten 106 in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s opening IPL game this season against Rajasthan Royals. Thereafter, there was again a slump in his form, but in the last three matches, he has scored some useful runs, including an unbeaten 94 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. That’s the type of knock he required before the upcoming tour. Though overlooked for the Indian Test team for the five-match series in England, he would be focused on the job at hand, as any drop in form or injury can still catapult him into the Test side.

SRH assistant coach Simon Helmot was full of praise for Kishan, following his match-winning innings of 94 off 48 balls with the help of seven fours and five sixes, as he guided SRH to a big 42-run win over RCB. “Ishan Kishan played a very mature innings. He certainly held the innings together for us.  As a batting unit, I think we stayed on course. Ishan, once again, played an excellent innings, and we had some solid contributions throughout the line-up,” said Helmot in the post-match press conference here on Friday night.

Patidar, Cummins fined for slow over-rate

RCB skipper Rajat Patidar and Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins have been fined for their respective teams’ slow over-rate here on Friday. While Cummins was fined Rs 12 lakh as it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct, Patidar was docked Rs 24 lakh as a member of the playing XI of the second-time offender RCB.
