St Mary's ICSE promoted to Division I of MSSA

St Mary's ICSE (Mazagaon) defeated St Xavier's (Bhandup) 3-1 in Saturday's Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school U-16 Div II semi-final to earn a promotion to Division I after a gap of three years.

Tanay Shah opened the scoring for the Mazagaon outfit in the 11th minute. Xavier’s Noble Fernando equalised in the 21st minute.

Mary’s captain Anas Vadagama added to the tally via a solo effort in the 30th minute. In the second half, St Mary’s striker Said Farooqui scored the winner in the 38th minute. Said stated: “Finally, we have achieved what we set out to — a promotion. I can pass out with pride. It’s a great feeling.”

Mary’s coach Zakir Hussain lauded the team’s performance. “It’s a big achievement for us. We were relegated in 2010 and since then we wanted to come back into to Div I. Now, we hope to win Div II title,” said Hussain.
