Ex-India batter Robin Uthappa has urged budding cricketers to be wary of the sudden influx of money that comes with fame, suggesting an external support system to handle the financial strain.

Citing his own example, when he received a massive Rs 3.2 crore IPL contract at the age of 21, Uthappa wrote on LinkedIn: “Nobody could see how unprepared I was. Sudden wealth changes your entire sense of self. Find a financial advisor whose interests align with yours, a therapist with no stake in your money, and a small circle of older people who’ve been through this.”
