&gt;&gt;&nbsp;He held the record for most Test centuries (34) until Sachin Tendulkar broke it in 2005.
&gt;&gt;&nbsp;He scored the highest runs by a debutant (774). He has also scored the most runs by any player in a series.
&gt;&gt;&nbsp;He is the only cricketer to score 4 consecutive hundreds in two different venues - Wankhede stadium and Port of Spain
&gt;&gt;&nbsp;He is the only cricketer with 58 hundred partnerships with a total of 18 different cricketers
&gt;&gt;&nbsp;He holds the joint record with Ponting and Warner to score hundreds in both Test innings on three occassions.
&gt;&gt;&nbsp;He was the first Indian fielder to get over 100 catches in Tests.
&gt;&gt;&nbsp;He was the first cricketer to play 100 consecutive Tests.
&gt;&gt;&nbsp;He was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1980.
