Sunil Gavaskar: Remember West Indies have won two T20 World Cups!

All-rounder Fabian Allen, the only West Indian to be picked at the IPL auction, was bought by Punjab Kings at his base price of Rs 75 lakh

Sunil GavaskarSunil Gavaskar has expressed his disappointment over the fact that only one West Indies player was bought at the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this week.

Fabian Allen was picked up by Punjab Kings at his base price of Rs 75 lakh.

“Never forget that the West Indies has won the ICC T20 World Cup twice. Remember also, the match-winners and impact players they have given to the different franchises like Universe Boss Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and the latest one, Nicholas Pooran.

“Comparisons are seldom fair but look at their performances and then look at those of the big money players from other countries and you will agree that they give more bang for the bucks than the fizzle of the others,” Gavaskar wrote in his Sunday Mid-day column.

The batting legend said he was not surprised to see that Australians and New Zealanders earning big bucks at the auction held in Chennai. “Six out of the eight franchises have coaches or directors of cricket who are from Australia and New Zealand,” he pointed out.
