Team India's biggest supporter, Sudhir Chaudhary, also known as Sudhir Kumar Gautam's poor financial condition was not a hindrance when it came to footing the expenses for his Sri Lankan counterpart Gayan Senanayaka for the three Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is in India. This is a return gesture from Sudhir after Gayan sponsored his Sri Lanka trips on four occasions.

Sudhir is the most recognised Indian cricket fan with the tri-colour painted on his body from head to waist. Sudhir extended the gesture to Gayan this time by bearing the cost of his flight tickets, visa fee, lodging/boarding and travelling to different cities in India for the matches. "He took good care of me when I went to Sri Lanka — twice in 2012, then in 2015 when Kumar Sangakkara retired and now this year. I thought this time I should bear his expenses as he was planning to come for the entire series," Sudhir told mid-day after arriving at the HPCA stadium here on Saturday from New Delhi for today's first ODI.

Before the third and final Test in New Delhi, Gayan was able to fulfill his wish to see the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra. "I am grateful to Sudhir for showing me Taj Mahal. I always wanted to go there, but never got an opportunity," said Gayan. Sudhir and Gayan share a special friendship that goes beyond cricket. "He is more than a friend to me now. We share a great bond," said Sudhir.
