The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shortlisted Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai as the venues for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026.
The title clash of the final will be played in Ahmedabad. The five chosen venues in India are Tier 1 cities and are expected to draw in packed crowds.
Earlier, the ODI World Cup 2023 final, which was played between Team India and Australia, was also scheduled in Ahmedabad. The Narendra Modi Stadium is also the world's largest cricket stadium, which has a capacity of over one lakh. The tournament was held across 10 different venues in the country.
It is learnt that the International Cricket Council (ICC) will announce the full schedule of the T20 World Cup 2026 next week. The marquee event will be co-hosted by Sri Lanka, which will act as a neutral venue for Pakistan according to an agreed arrangement with India.
There will be three venues in Sri Lanka, which will host the matches, including Colombo.
In case the "Green Shirts" manage to seal the final berth, the title clash will then be played in Sri Lanka.
Irrespective of the host nation, India and Pakistan will play all their games at a neutral venue till 2027, as per the agreement reached by the ICC, BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Additionally, the "Men in Blue" will enter the tournament as the defending champions. In the previous year, the side managed to claim the World Cup title in the format in Barbados in June.
Earlier, Team India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, defeated South Africa in the final by seven runs at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Stalwart Virat Kohli was named the "Player of the Match" for his crucial contributions. Facing 59 balls, the right-hander had scored 76 runs, with the help of six boundaries and two maximums.
Lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah also won the "Player of the Series" award. He registered a total of 15 scalps to his name.
Following the triumph, the star Indian duo, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, drew curtains on their careers in the shortest format of the game.
