Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar expressed his disappointment with the stadium DJ at the Wankhede Stadium. The veteran commentator was upset as the DJ tried to start the 'Boom Boom Bumrah' chant mid-over, during India's T20 World Cup semi-final win over England.
With the match at a crucial stage, Suryakumar Yadav handed the ball to Jasprit Bumrah as India looked for a breakthrough. However, Sunil Gavaskar, who was commentating at the time, was disappointed when the DJ tried to start a chant with the crowd in the middle of the over.
"Asking the crowd to chant 'Boom Boom Bumrah' while he is bowling is not a good idea. They can do it between overs, but not during the over. This is a World Cup," Gavaskar said while commentating on the match.
The veteran commentator felt that it was disrespectful towards the players and should have been avoided, especially in a World Cup match. Earlier, Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar had both criticised the ICC for organising a laser show during a tense T20 World Cup Super 8 clash between India and the West Indies cricket team at the Eden Gardens.
India beat England to enter the T20 World Cup final
India defeated England in a thrilling semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium to book a place in the T20 World Cup final. After put into bat, India scored a daunting 253 runs at the end of their innings. Sanju Samson was once again the star with the bat, top scoring with 89 runs. Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya scored 43 and 27 runs respectively, in quick time to put India in a commanding position.
India's bowling innings was far from straightforward, as Jacob Bethell threatened to take the game away from them. The southpaw scored 105 off just 48 balls, but his historic innings was not enough to get England over the line.
India will face New Zealand in the final on Sunday, March 8, with history on the line. If the hosts win, they will become the first team ever to successfully defend their T20 titles, while a win for the Blackcaps will hand them their maiden T20 World Cup win.
