Team Canada at World Cup
Canada's preparations have been topsy turvy to say the least. First, John Davison, their main batsman, threatened to withdraw from the squad over the omission of two senior players. To make matters worse, four players of Pakistani origin including vice-captain Rizwan Cheema had troubles getting an Indian visa. As a result, the squad had only limited opportunities to practise together. Unnecessary distractions for a team that already has little chance of making an impact on the World Cup.
Ashish Bagai /Captain/Wicketkeeper
Bagai has been an effective batsman in every form of the game for his country. A very technically correct batsman, the Delhi-born Bagai has an average touching 40 and two hundreds in ODIs. He is also a very tidy keeper and has had two stints of captaincy with the team. His passion for cricket and representing his country are evident after he quit a rather successful career as a banker in London to accept a fulltime contract with Cricket Canada.
The high-point of Bagai's career was his performance in the 2007 World Cricket League as he scored two hundreds en route to being named the player of the tournament.
Bagai is a supremely confident leader and has been quoted several times in the lead up to the World Cup about Canada's bright chances in the subcontinent.u00a0
