Team Netherlands at World Cup
The Netherlands have the second worst World Cup record among all nations at the 2011 edition. And there is nothing about them to suggest that things are about to change. Barring Ryan ten Doeschate, they have few players of international note and even though the core of the side has stayed the same over the past few years, their performances against the big guns in the sparse few matches that they have played have been less than stellar. But they did provide a shock result in the opening match of the 2009 World Twenty20, beating hosts England - their first opponents in the World Cup.
Ryan ten Doeschate /All-rounder
Ryan ten Doeschate has been the face of Dutch cricket for a long time. There was a buzz about him ever since he debuted in 2006 and rightly so. He finished with four back-to-back hundreds in his debut Intercontinental Cup. He has turned into the Netherlands' best batsman and his very effective medium pace has earned him the all-rounder tag.
With a little over 1200 runs and 48 wickets in just 27 matches, he is clearly the best performer for the team. An ODI average of nearly 70 also justifies the hype and in 2010, he was awarded the ICC Associate and Affiliate Player of the Year Award for one hundred and three fifties in five matches in the year.
He has also been recognised as a potential success in Twenty20 as Kolkata's IPL franchise snapped him up in the recent auction for a decent fee.u00a0
