Bowling the final delivery of his third set, the 50th ball of the Superchargers’ innings, Baker dismissed Dawid Malan to leave the opponents reeling at 63/5. Returning to complete his spell, he cleaned up tailenders Tom Lawes and Jacob Duffy in successive deliveries, sealing the hat-trick and wrapping up the Superchargers' innings at 114

Pacer Sonny Baker continued his remarkable rise in English cricket, claiming a stunning hat-trick for Manchester Originals in their dominant 57-run win over Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on Sunday. The 21-year-old, recently named in England’s limited-overs squads for upcoming series against South Africa and Ireland, joined the prestigious list of Sam Curran, Imran Tahir, and Tymal Mills as bowlers to have taken a hat-trick in the competition’s history.
After the Originals posted a commanding 171/3, thanks to impactful half-centuries from skipper Jos Buttler (64 off 45 balls, 5 fours, 4 sixes) and Heinrich Klaasen (50* off 25, 4 fours, 4 sixes), it was Baker who stole the show with the ball.
And that's that! ✅

Bowling the final delivery of his third set, the 50th ball of the Superchargers’ innings, Baker dismissed the dangerous Dawid Malan to leave the opponents reeling at 63/5. Returning to complete his spell, he cleaned up tailenders Tom Lawes and Jacob Duffy in successive deliveries, sealing the hat-trick and wrapping up the Superchargers' innings at 114.
Baker finished with impressive figures of 3/21 off just 17 balls and played a crucial role in helping the Originals secure a vital win. His performance not only earned him a place in The Hundred's elite hat-trick club but also propelled him to third on the tournament’s wicket-takers list, with seven wickets in five matches at an average of 16.42.
The Devon-born fast bowler’s consistent performances have not gone unnoticed. Earlier this month, England selectors rewarded his domestic form with a call-up to the ODI squad set to face South Africa and the T20I squad to play Ireland. The white-ball leg of England’s summer begins with three ODIs against South Africa starting on September 2 at Headingley, followed by three T20Is against Ireland in Malahide from September 17.
Baker’s selection comes on the back of an excellent domestic season. Representing Hampshire in the Vitality Blast, he took eight wickets in seven matches, including best figures of 3/28, at an average of 27.25. He further impressed during England Lions' tour of Australia, claiming eight wickets in two matches.
England Lions head coach and former international all-rounder Andrew Flintoff had earlier praised Baker’s raw pace and temperament. Speaking to Sky Sports recently, Flintoff, coaching Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, said, "Sonny Baker has been announced in the squad. Unbelievable."
"He came in, we gave him his first-class debut in Australia. Runs in, bowls quick, but what a joy to work with. He is just a cracking lad. He writes everything down, he hangs on your every word. He just wants to run in, bowl fast day after day. As a coach of the Lions, that is what you want to see," he concluded.
