Pallavi Smart pallavi. smart@ mid- day. com AMID the global panic over the novel Coronavirus [ COVID- 19], students hailing from the northeastern states, studying at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences [ TISS] have been subjected to racial discrimination across the city.
Recalling one such instance, a masteru2019s student from the Deonar campus and who hails from Nagaland, told mid- day, u201c I was out having dinner with my friend on Sunday night.
How are we supposed to respond to such attacks? This clearly reflects the shallowness of people who not only cannot differentiate but also lack decency regarding behaviour in public.u201d He continued, u201c A similar instance happened shockingly inside the institute.
The group also had a meeting with the institute authorities regarding the insensitive behaviour. u201c The Dean of Studentsu2019 Affairs at the institute gave us a patient hearing and has assured that specific steps will be taken to create awareness and to ensure safety of students from northeast,u201d a research student from the institute who also hails from northeast said.
