Barcelona David Villa admits his side could not have asked for more after stunning arch rivals Real Madrid 5-0 at the Nou Camp tonight to take over top spot in La Liga. Madrid came into the match unbeaten in 19 competitive games under new coach Jose Mourinho and with a one-point lead over second-placed Barca at the top of the Primera Division standings. However, the capital club were swept aside in remarkable fashion as two goals from Villa, plus further strikes by Xavi, Pedro Rodriguez and substitute Jeffren, completed a comprehensive victory for Pep Guardiola's defending champions. Villa, playing in his first 'Clasico' having joined Barca from Valencia in the summer, said after the game: "It's been a very important win. We looked for the victory and we got it. And the result and the manner in which we achieved it, you cannot ask for more." The Spanish World Cup winner warned against getting too carried away with the victory, though, with only 13 rounds of the Primera Division season gone. "We are two points clear. We need to continue working hard. We are in November. Just as before the game nothing was lost, now neither have we won anything. We have an advantage but we need to continue working." Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso, whose side were up against it early on after falling 2-0 down after 18 minutes, was quoted as saying in AS: "We didn't expect a game like this but there's a lot of the season left and this isn't over. "They have made things a lot easier for themselves by scoring the first so early and then getting the second quickly. "It's been very difficult. We have to learn from the mistakes we've made." Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho claimed his side were still a work in progress following the defeat, and admitted they had been well beaten. "One team played at its maximum level and the other team played very badly," he said. "It's a defeat, not a humiliation." And the Madrid coach was unhappy at his side's defending in the first half. "We gifted them two goals that were almost ridiculous," he said. Mourinho remained in the dugout as his side capitulated in the second period, but said there was nothing he could do to prevent the heavy defeat. "I was watching the game. I tried to change things at the interval and we came out quite well, but then they scored again and there was nothing I could do - the game was lost," he said. The defeat sees Madrid drop to second in the Primera Division after 13 rounds of matches, but with 25 games left, Mourinho is not panicking just yet. "Last week we had a point more than Barcelona and today we have a point less," he said. "And as I have always said, Barca is the finished article while Madrid is still a long way off that." Madrid are now at home to Valencia next weekend and Mourinho is sure his players will react positively. "We have to show character. After a defeat like this you want to play again soon. We are playing on Saturday, but I wish we could play tomorrow," he said. Barca coach Pep Guardiola was delighted with his side's performance, but believes tonight's result does not prove his side to be superior to Madrid. "This match isn't representative of the difference between the two teams," he said after the match. "They are a very good team, they came here unbeaten and as league leaders. Today all of our players played well and that was the difference. "Now it's very easy to we are better than them, but only time will tell. In a few years time, we will see. "They are on a spectacular level, but we were better today." Nevertheless, Guardiola did admit his side have been a level above Madrid in his time as coach, in which he has won all five meetings with Barca's biggest rivals. "In these two years we have been superior to Madrid - that's true. With time, we can enjoy these things more," he said. "And we will enjoy this for a few days now as well." The Barca coach admits he feels similar sensations to when Barca beat Madrid 6-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu in his first season in charge. "The sensations are similar, but that win virtually gave us the league, whereas there is a long way to go this time," he said. "We already have an internal satisfaction," he added. "If we were going on holiday then we would be happier. But we haven't won anything yet and we have to keep going - I would like to be 10 or 12 points ahead of Madrid, but it's not possible." Barca's last big win was an incredible 8-0 victory at Almeria, which led to the sacking of coach Juanma Lillo by the Andalusian club. Asked if there could be a repeat of that outcome with Madrid and Mourinho, the Barca coach smiled and said: "I don't think so." u00a0
