Was Kohli's gesture justifiable?

Here's a minute grab from youtube where the RCB cricketer is seen verbally retaliating to fans after they hurled abuses at him during an IPL match.
Virat Kohli, the young angry lad, has raised a big question about whether cricket is still a Gentleman's game.
Many experts have contradictory opinions on his gesture during the recently concluded Sydney Test. Some believe that after attaining 'star' status, sportsmen need to be calm. Others, on the other hand, reckon there is a limit to abuse against Indian players, to which his retaliation was justifiable.

We also believe Kohli may have gestured to Aussie fans, not Indians.
Even so, is this a sensible way of reacting to spectators?

Recalling an incident last month, Kohli survived any penalty or ban, but was reprimanded for showing dissent to the umpire during the third ODI against West Indies in Ahmedabad.
