Riding high on a brace from striker Jinay Barud, NSS Hillspring International School (Tardeo) clinched their maiden boys U-12 Division III title in the Dream Sports Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school football tournament, defeating PG Garodia International (Ghatkopar) 2-0 at Azad Maidan on Thursday. The Tardeo outfit wrapped up a memorable campaign without conceding a single goal throughout the tournament, a rare feat at any level of inter-school football.
NSS Hillspring’s Jinay — who played through the pain after twisting his ankle on Tuesday — broke the deadlock in the 11th minute with a well-timed header that sneaked into the bottom right corner of the net, giving the Tardeo side a 1-0 lead.
After the break, NSS Hillspring continued to dominate possession and press forward with purpose. In the 23rd minute, Jinay once again rose to the occasion, this time scoring with his injured foot from outside the box to double the lead and seal the victory.
Speaking after the win, NSS Hillspring coach Bloecher Mendes expressed immense pride in his team’s performance. “I’m proud of the effort the boys have put in throughout the season. Winning this tournament feels special Jinay’s story is especially inspiring. We requested his parents to let him play despite his injury, and thankfully, it worked out well,” said Mendes.
Meanwhile, in the third-place playoff, Dominic Savio (Andheri) beat Jankidevi Public School (Andheri) 3-2 via a thrilling tie-breaker. Vihaan Sharma, Ibrahim Ansari and Jaden Mendonca scored for Dominic Savio, while only Atif Shaikh and Ali Jani were on target for Jankidevi.
