The equation for hosts Mumbai City FC (MCFC) and Delhi Dynamos (DD), both teams that lock horns in an Indian Super League (ISL) match today at the Mumbai Football Arena in Andheri is pretty simple. A win for Mumbai would see the home side equal table-toppers Chennaiyin FC, while another loss for Delhi would see the Lions slip to the bottom of the table.
Delhi are going through a miserable run where they have lost five matches in a row, while Mumbai are returning home on the back of a 2-0 win over NorthEast United FC. Besides, the home side have lost just once in their last four matches. The stakes favour Mumbai, but head coach Alexandre Guimar&atilde;es is wary of a Delhi upset.
"No matter what situation Delhi is in right now, it will be a very tough game. A loss for Delhi will put them in a very difficult situation where it will be hard to recover. "Knowing that we have to be serious and focussed and can't underestimate anything," he said on the eve of the match.
"We have to make it a second win in a row and for that, we've got to play better tomorrow," the Costa Rican gaffer added. Meanwhile, Delhi's assistant coach Shakti Chauhan was determined that his side will pull off a win today, despite their horrible show so far. "It's high time we need to win games and that's what we are here for, to win," said Chauhan, who is the only Indian coach to be part of more than 50 matches in an ISL team from the league's inception.
Analysing Delhi's losses, Chauhan highlighted that his team lacked finishing touches. "The training was good and so were the games. We kept ball possession. The only thing what is not working for us is the kind of thrust we are putting in the final third. The finishing is not up to the mark and that is what we are working since the last few games," he said.
