London: Liverpool on Saturday announced the signing of highly-rated defender Joe Gomez from Charlton Athletic on a five-year deal.

Media reports said that the Anfield club had paid &pound;3.5 million for the England U-19 international, who can play in central defence or at full-back.
Gomez, who made 24 appearances for second-tier Charlton last season, becomes Liverpool&rsquo;s fourth summer signing after James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan.
