Pep Guardiola believes he’s beginning to see signs that his Manchester City team is getting back to their best.

“We’re not at our best yet, but we’re close,” said the Spanish coach, ahead of Manchester City’s English Premier League game against a high-flying Bournemouth side.

“When I see the team, and the training, and how we do things, we’ll soon become a team that is difficult to beat. I’m optimistic about what this team can do this season,” he added.

Prior to last weekend’s 0-1 defeat to Aston Villa, the Sky Blues were unbeaten in nine games across all competitions. Having since secured a 3-1 win in the mid-week EFL Cup clash against Swansea, things are looking up for City.

However, Sunday’s encounter against Andoni Iraola’s side could scupper their hopes of battling Arsenal for the title — City (16 pts) currently trail table-toppers Arsenal (22 pts) by six points.

Bournemouth have been the surprise package of the season, and are sitting in second place with 18 points, making Guardiola wary of their threat.

“They [Bournemouth] are a consistent team, and have a fantastic manager and fantastic players. They’ll no doubt be a tough opponent to beat,” the Manchester City boss concluded.
