Ruturaj Patil (14), who finished as a runner-up in the U-14 individual wooden event of the DSO zonal level competition held earlier this month at Prabodhan Krida Bhavan in Goregaon, said, “I got inspired to try out archery after I saw some people practice the sport. That’s when I joined the practice sessions under coach Subhash Nair. I was unable to win a gold in the district event. But now my aim is to win a medal at the state level. After watching me, my elder brother Abhijeet (19) took up the sport as well,” Ruturaj told MiD DAY at a practice session held at Asmita Vidalaya, Jogeshwari, recently.

Gaurav Kaskar, who trains at Asmita Vidyalaya under national coaches Ajinkya Adkar and Rohan More, said: “It’s just been two years that I have learnt archery. I am not good at academics, but I love the time I spend with my bow and arrow. My coaches provided me with equipment, which wasn’t possible for me to buy. Now, I hope to win a medal and makeu00a0them proud.” Kaskar won gold in the U-17 individual wooden event of the DSO zonal level archery competition.
