Chembur lad Dhyanchand K and Manjeet Singh of Sports Authority of India claimed the first and second spots in the boys under-18 1500m event in the 38th Bombay YMCA State Level Athletics championships at the Sports Authority of India, Kandivli (East) yesterday.
Incidentally, both broke the existing record of 4:13.6 secs set by Road Runners’ Mervyn R in 1997. Dhyanchand clocked 4:11.9 secs while Manjeet who finished second, too, improved the old mark by timing 4:12.7 secs.
Sharing the day’s honours with them was bespectacled Yash Sukhwani, who set a new record in the 400m run in the boys under-14 category. The Aditya Birla Academy boy won the event in 53.3 secs, which is better than the 2009 timing (55.0 secs) of Anurag Khopkar of Tracktrotters.
