Vibgyor High, Utpal Sanghvi are champions

Malad team beat Bombay Scottish 8-6 for U-11 boys title while Juhu side defeat Vibgyor High 3-0 for girls honours

Vibgyor High (Malad) warded off a spirited challenge from Bombay Scottish (Mahim) to record a fighting 8-6 victory in an exciting and tense boys under-11 final of the MSSA inter-school basketball tournament at Azad Maidan on Monday.

Aarav Bist, 10, played the lead role, contributing six points towards the win. Teammate Dhariya Bajaj found one basket to complete the tally and help his team emerge champions. Bombay Scottish, who initially led 4-2, managed to score three baskets (two points each) through the efforts of Adidev Sreenivasan, Yohan John and Avighna Chury.

Earlier, Utpal Sanghvi Global School (Juhu) beat Vibgyor High (Malad) 3-0 in the girls under-11 final. Tisha Maneckji played the lead role as she scored one basket and converted a free-throw to guide Utpal Sanghvi to victory. Vigbyor High failed to score a single basket. Arav Bist of Vibgyor High and Tisha Maneckji of Utpal Sanghvi won the Most Valuable Player awards.

Earlier, Cathedral & John Connon ‘A’ (Fort) and Bombay Scottish (Mahim) claimed the boys and girls bronze medals respectively. Cathedral defeated Bombay Scottish (Powai) 5-2 while the Mahim school girls overcame Bombay Scottish (Powai) 6-4 in the third-place matches.
