In a stunning turn of events at the ongoing World Athletics Championships final in Tokyo, India's rising javelin star Sachin Yadav outshone seasoned competitors including compatriot Neeraj Chopra and Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem. The 25-year-old Yadav produced a remarkable throw of 86.27 meters in the opening round on Thursday, placing him in second position at the end of Round 1. This throw not only eclipsed Chopra’s 83.65 meters and Nadeem’s 82.73 meters but also marked a new personal best for Yadav.

Building on that momentum, Yadav dominated the domestic circuit in 2025, securing gold medals at both the Federation Cup in Kochi (83.86 meters) and the National Games in Dehradun (84.39 meters).
Yadav’s breakthrough on the international stage came at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, where he stunned the field by recording a then-personal best of 85.16 meters and clinched the silver medal, finishing just behind Arshad Nadeem. That throw placed him among the elite few Indian javelin throwers to breach the prestigious 85-meter mark.
He carried that form into the qualification round of the World Championships, delivering an impressive throw of 83.67 meters, which comfortably secured his place in the final alongside Chopra and other top contenders.
Chopra, India’s Olympic gold and silver medallist, has served as a beacon of inspiration for emerging athletes like Yadav. His consistent throws beyond the 85-meter mark and his achievements, including historic podium finishes at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics, have set new benchmarks in Indian athletics.
