As the countdown begins for the javelin final at the World Athletics Championships, all eyes are on India’s golden boy, Neeraj Chopra. The much-anticipated event is scheduled for September 18 at 3:53 pm IST, where Neeraj will step onto the global stage as the defending champion. However, reclaiming the crown will be no easy feat, with a strong field of elite competitors like Arshad Nadeem, Julian Weber, and Anderson Peters vying for top honours.
Despite the immense pressure and fierce competition, Neeraj Chopra’s 2025 season serves as a testament to his unwavering consistency and world-class pedigree. At 27, Chopra has participated in seven major events this year, producing a string of stellar performances that reinforce his status as one of the finest javelin throwers in the world. He has claimed four first-place finishes and three second-place spots.
Chopra kicked off his 2025 campaign in South Africa at the Potch Invitational Meet, clinching first place with a solid throw of 84.52 metres. His next major outing came at the Doha Diamond League, where he threw a season-best of 90.23 metres, narrowly missing the top spot but finishing with a commendable second place.
In June, Neeraj competed in Poland at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial, once again settling for second with a throw of 84.14 metres. However, this brief pause from the top of the podium was short-lived. The Olympic champion bounced back with three consecutive gold-winning performances, an 88.16-metre throw at the Paris Diamond League, 85.29 metres at the Ostrava Golden Spike, and 86.18 metres at the NC Classic.
Although Chopra wrapped up the Diamond League season with a second-place finish in the final, where he managed an 85.01-metre effort, his overall performance throughout the year underscores his formidability and razor-sharp focus heading into the World Championships.
