In 2014, when Anand Bhaskar Collective (ABC) released their first album, they had made a unanimous decision to come up with an album every two years. The boys have kept their word. Next week, the five-member band will release their upcoming album Excuse Me at antiSOCIAL.
"To stay relevant, it's important to generate content. Sometimes, indie bands release an album and then for the next six years, you hear nothing from them. We don't want to do that," says Chandan Raina, the band's guitarist.
The album comprises nine songs, comprising a blend of Hindi vocals and Carnatic violin. Although Raina insists that they don't want to be known as a 'band with a message' and hence, has always stayed clear of political and religious leanings, they have made an exception this time around with their first song, Excuse Me.
"It starts with Zindagi Tul Rahi Hai Maas Ka Bhaav which is about the Dadri lynching incident. It's an angsty, upset-with-the-world kind of a song. However, that's the only serious track in the album," he says, adding that the rest of the tracks are 'fun'. "They are about love and heartbreak, and every one can relate to them," he says.
While the lyrics have been penned by Bhaskar, lead vocalist for the band, the album has been produced by Raina. The album also has elements of mythology woven in. "There is a song called Radhe in our first album Samskara, which is about Krishna trying to woo Radha, but in vain. And, now in this album, we have a sequel of sorts where Radha responds to Krishna's advances. It's a playful banter between both," he explains.
