Icy what you did there!

This year it’s not warm autumn but icy tones and glossy eye looks that are in. From It girl Janhvi Kapoor to makeup content creators such as Ankush Bahuguna, cool tones seem to be the hot trend. Unlike warm tones, cool eyeshadows (think taupe, ashy browns, or shades in the blue and silver family) are more wearable as they mimic the natural shadows of our eye contour. Amp up the drama with glossy lids — we like Makeup Revolution’s Eye Gloss (Rs 350) as a topper over eyeshadow. Metallics are back — from multi-chrome eyeliners, to classics such as silver shimmer. For those new to make-up, we suggest metallic eyeshadow sticks and eyeliners from Kay Beauty (Rs 625-Rs 750).

Flutter those lashes

Celebrity make-up artiste Ojas Rajani tells us that the big Diwali make-up trend we’re likely to see this year is falsies. Celebs and professional make-up artistes have been using these for years, but with the launch of several new brands on Instagram, Rajani predicts a lot more people will take to this easy hack. “It’s one of those things that takes five minutes but completely elevates your look,” says Rajani. You can find affordable options online for R200 (Nykaa) upwards.

Winging it

For the kajal girlies who steer clear of the upper lash line, the reverse eyeliner trend is just what you need. Rather than drawing a wing on the upper lid, you can line the lower lashes, but this time, don’t be afraid to drag the corner into a wing from below. Deepika Padukone first made waves with this dramatic look at Cannes in 2019, but the style has made a comeback among younger actors such as Kriti Sanon. Pro-tip: Use a smudge-proof gel product like FAE Beauty’s Gel Kajal (R420). “With such a dramatic eye, it’s important to balance the look with a neutral lip,” says make-up artiste Komal Rohit.
