Go back in time!
If you’ve ever wanted to travel back in time through television, MyRetroTVs is the perfect portal. This website recreates the experience of watching North American TV from different decades, letting you tune in to various eras, straight from the ’50s and all the way up to the 2000s, as if you were flipping through channels in real time. Click on a decade — say, the ’90s — and a retro television screen from the era appears, broadcasting a mix of news, sports, cartoons, commercials, and sitcoms, just as they would have aired back then. It’s perfect when you don’t know what to watch. Plus, the site’s vintage aesthetic makes it a great background feature for parties. Project it onto a wall, and suddenly, your space has a cool, retro vibe.

There’s a Why in my soup!

PIC/INSTAGRAM@etgar_keret
Alphabet soup is a substack newsletter by Etgar Keret — an author who loves to write pretty much the entire time. The Alphabet soup has it all swirling around — poems, short stories, screenplays, random thoughts that he has and so much more! There are also two types of soups that he serves — the fresh soup consists of his unpublished pieces, while the canned soup is a selection of his previously published works.

Stack ’em right

The Stackers & Puzzles collection on Gubbachhi features 22 beautifully crafted wooden toys that nurture creativity, problem-solving, and cultural learning. We particularly liked Eenta, which are actual bricks but made of mango wood, designed for open-ended building.

Another series to love is their folk art puzzle sets drawn from Indian art, such as Warli and Madhubani. Monument stackers like the Taj Mahal and Gateway of India offer pretend-play architecture with non-toxic wood.

Scents of the city

Only one smitten with Mumbai could turn its noise into a perfume. Byredo’s Mumbai Noise is an evocative, unisex Eau de Parfum — a sensory tribute to the vibrant contrasts of Mumbai and founder Ben Gorham’s own memories. The fragrance evokes incense-filled streets and the city’s energetic pulse, to give a complex yet grounded result; like a fragrant echo of urban life. If you have a yen for splashing out, you can head to the Byredo store in BKC, but if your budget doesn’t let you, you can get a small, more affordable quantity, as we did, from a samples website (check the site for authenticity).

Anchored to Mumbai

For those who are away from their home city, as well as for those firmly planted in the midst of the hurly-burly, this is an all-too-familiar piece of the city’s waterfront that they can take with them, and a useful one too. It’s a paperweight, made of aluminium, in the shape of the tetrapods that line the seashore. Not just a desk essential, it’s sure to be a talking point whether at home or at the office. Moreover, each piece is handcrafted, with slight variations that add to its charm. Whether holding down your notes or simply sitting pretty, it brings with it a piece of Mumbai’s coastline, and its stories. And it weighs only 220 gm so it’s suitcase-friendly if you want to take a bit of Marine Drive with you overseas.
