In the sea of admittedly great podcasts one can find, Empire: World History stands out as one of the most detailed, conversational, accurate and funny presentations of history. Historians Anita Anand and William Dalrymple, interview other historians or even use narrative storytelling to present important events with a decentred lens.
They have blown my mind, time and again, covering topics like the Indian Uprising of 1857, British Indians, rise of Stalin, road to 9/11, Viking mythology, the Algerian War and even contemporary issues like the circumstances in Gaza, the US-Iran war, or the rise of AI and tech companies. If you are someone who has an interest in history, this podcast is a good place to learn. If you are a history buff, it will show you gaps in narratives and new ways to look at them.
