We’ve been following chef Amal Farooque’s work for quite some time now, especially with her brand Sage & Olio, but we recently learnt that her other brand SugarOverDose marks 14 years in the dessert space. So, on its anniversary, Chef Farooque introduced their boldest offshoot yet — THICC.

Positioned as an indulgent, standout line, THICC builds on chef’s established reputation but carves out a distinct identity. With a focus on unapologetically rich flavours (rare, in the times of sugar-free this and gluten-free that) and a more daring aesthetic, this one aims to appeal to a younger, trend-conscious audience while retaining the brand’s core of handmade, quality confections. It’s a strategic evolution — less about nostalgia and more about statement-making sweets.

We tried their White Chocolate Cranberry and Pistachio (Rs 350), a clever twist on a classic combination; this cookie strikes a balance between tart cranberries notes and creamy white chocolate richness. Pistachios pack the nutty crunch. Chewy, gooey, and just the right amount of sweetness, it’s ideal for those who like the tang in their sweet cravings.

The Brown Butter Pecan Cookie (Rs 350) is a grown-up take on comfort. Nutty, caramelised, and intensely buttery, this cookie brings out the warmth of slow-roasted pecans in a soft, chewy base. The brown butter lends complexity without overwhelming the palate. Kids fell for the Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie (R350) that is a chocolate lover’s fix — dense, fudgy, and the generous chunks add bite to an otherwise soft interior.

Everyone’s favourite was the Red Velvet Oreo Cookie (Rs 350) — velvety and indulgent, with a nostalgic Oreo crunch tucked into a soft, ruby-hued dough. The fudgy centre elevates it and we are already craving it as we write this piece.

THICC feels like a natural progression for a baker who’s spent over a decade refining her craft. The cookies deliver texture and flavour without trying too hard. The  combinations are playful and well-executed. Decadent but balanced, indulgent without being overdone — we feel this one is solid step forward by the chef and one definitely worth watching. We can’t wait to try the other three flavours .
