‘We can’t let another Riddhi die’

Could Kandivli motorcyclist Riddhi Thakkar’s death have been prevented if biker clubs were accountable to a governing body for safety measures? Many in motorcycle community think so, and say it’s high time that a governing body be established to set safety standards

Riddhi Thakkar, 24, was more than a thousand kilometres away from her home and family in Kandivli when she was killed in a hit-and-run during a motorcycle tour of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region on August 12. Normally, the distance wouldn’t have mattered.

She was an experienced rider who had gone on several long expeditions on her wine-coloured Royal Enfield Hunter 350, including group and solo trips. But in that fatal accident, she was not on her trusty Hunter 350; she was riding the damaged bike of a fellow rider who had also met with an accident just an hour earlier.
