Elon Musk tried to take over OpenAI in 2018, but Sam Altman and other founders rejected his proposal

Elon Musk, who took over Twitter in 2022, had earlier also attempted to take control of OpenAi, the creator of ChatGPT that is currently creating a buzz around the world. However, Sam Altman and the company's other founders rejected Musk's proposal, according to a report by Semafor.

Musk, in turn, walked away from the company and reneged on a massive planned donation, reports Semafor.

Musk told Altman that he believed the "venture had fallen fatally behind Google".
