LG Display has introduced a stretchable display, which can expand up to 50 per cent—the highest rate of elongation in the industry. Presented on November 8 at LG Science Park in Seoul, this breakthrough was part of South Korea’s national project on stretchable displays, drawing more than 100 industry, academic, and research figures.

The prototype features a 12-inch screen that stretches to 18 inches while maintaining a high 100 pixels-per-inch (ppi) resolution and full red, green, and blue (RGB) colour. Using a micro-LED light source and a special silicone-based substrate similar to contact lens technology, LG achieved durability for more than 10,000 stretches, even in extreme temperatures and shocks. The thin and lightweight display conforms to curved surfaces, suggesting applications in wearables, automotive, and safety gear.
