WhatsApp payments: How to send and receive money

After two years of waiting, the WhatsApp payment service has received approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to go live on Unified Payment Interface (UPI) with over 160 supported banks.
How to setup account
- Open WhatsApp app on phone and tap on three-dotted icon on top right corner of the screen.
- Tap on Payments and add payment method. You will get a list of bank names.
- After selecting the name of the bank, your number (linked with the bank) will be verified via SMS.
- After verification is completed, finish setting up payments.
- After this, you will be able to see the chosen bank on the payments page.
How to send or receive money
- Open the chat of the person on WhatsApp and go to attachment icon.
- Tap on Payment and add the amount. You can also add a note.
- Enter your UPI PIN. After the transaction is completed, you will receive a confirmation message.
