I recently ended a long-term relationship with someone I thought I would marry, and he has been badmouthing me since we broke up. I have not said anything bad about him in the hope that he would extend that same courtesy to me, but this has not stopped him from telling common friends that I ruined the relationship. I am hurt and angry but can’t do anything because he is entitled to his opinion. Should I consider reaching out to him and telling him how I feel or just drop it and move on? I don’t want to start another argument for no reason.
Moving on may be best because this is clearly someone who has decided to cause you harm and isn’t being as respectful as you hoped he would. People handle the end of a relationship in many ways, and this may be his way of coping. You can send him a message about how this is causing you pain, but it’s safe to assume that it may be why he’s doing it in the first place. Being the bigger person isn’t always easy, but it is sometimes the smartest thing to do because distance and time can help you heal a lot faster. Accept that this will hurt you for a while until you get to a point when it will cease to matter.

My boyfriend wants me to move in with him, but he hasn’t said anything about marriage yet. Is this a risky thing for us if the relationship doesn’t work out?
You have to ask yourself what you are willing to risk and what you want out of this relationship. If marriage is the aim, and you aren’t having an honest conversation about it, you will have to move in with him by making a leap of faith. All relationships can end, of course, so moving in may not have any positive or negative impact either way. Talk about your fears, ask questions, and think about what is at stake before deciding.
