I am a 25-year old working professional. I don’t use Instagram or Facebook, and men get suspicious because of this and doubt my genuineness. I have been on a few dates, but nothing turns out well because a majority of men find it weird that I am not on social media. Is it absolutely okay to not use social media apps if they aren’t of any use to you? I don’t believe in displaying my real self to a lot of people. Please tell me if I’m on the right track or if I too should start using social media apps? Men judge you a lot on the basis of what you post online these days and I am not comfortable using these apps.

There is nothing wrong with avoiding social media apps. Numerous studies have shown that they can be detrimental to your mental health, and the fact remains that sharing personal information may be great for boosting the bottom lines of these platforms while offering absolutely no value to your life. Some men may feel the need to evaluate you based upon photographs you post to Instagram, but there will also be others who use their intellect to gauge what you’re really like as opposed to the front we tend to put up while posting something online. For every man who thinks you aren’t genuine by not being on social media, there will be someone with a functional brain who will recognise that the opposite is more likely to be true. It is social media that isn’t genuine, so don’t let peer pressure sway you into doing anything you aren’t comfortable with.
