My girlfriend is two years younger than I am and is always unsure about the future of our relationship. I turn 30 this year, and would like to settle down, but she is always saying that she needs more time even though we have been together for two years. We love each other, but I think she feels as if she is being hasty by moving to the next stage. She wants more time, and I am ready to give it to her, as long as she can assure me that there is a future. If she isn’t certain of that, I need to end this relationship and be with someone who wants to spend the rest of their life with me. Am I being hasty or are my reasons valid?
Your reasons are valid, but so are hers. Making a lifelong commitment isn’t always as easy for both partners, more so given that she doesn’t have the same sense of urgency as you do. If you are prepared to give her more time, why not do that unconditionally? Can anyone guarantee the future of any relationship? Hypothetically, if you choose to end this and be with someone else, who is to say that will work out any faster? All you should focus on is the individual and what she means to you. if the two of you want to be together, you can both work towards a solution. It can’t be rushed. I suggest you wait a few months without putting any pressure on her, then have a conversation about how things stand and what your expectations are, before making any decision.

You alone can come up with an answer to that question because no one outside your relationship can understand what this means or what the implications are. Think about it carefully though, to avoid regret or resentment later.
