I know there are pros and cons to this, but I can’t just go on thinking that something will happen if I don’t make any move. Should I just go ahead and do it?

I am a 32-year old woman and have been single for almost a year after the end of my last relationship. I have not been on any dates with anyone since and have not been interested in meeting any new men either. The thing is, I am always thinking about a colleague of mine, which is why I have been hesitant to go out with anyone. I know he is single, and I also know our interests match because of some conversations I have had with him. He has never flirted with me or given me any indication that he has any interest in me, but I can’t seem to get him out of my head, and I have decided to just ask him out. I know there are pros and cons to this, but I can’t just go on thinking that something will happen if I don’t make any move. Should I just go ahead and do it?
If you have decided to, of course, given that you have weighed the options. As long as you are prepared for any outcome and believe that this will have no impact on your professional life irrespective of how he reacts, there shouldn’t be any problem. Yes, office romances are tricky, but you aren’t at that stage yet, so why not ask him and see where that goes before thinking about what happens after?
I am wondering if it is pointless for me to search for a boyfriend because none of the guys I have been with for six years have been very meaningful to my life in any way. It just complicates things, and I am considering just being single because I think the idea of relationships is overrated. Is this a good idea?
You are well within your rights to make that choice, obviously, and should go with what makes you happy. Nothing stops you from trying to get into a relationship at some point in the future if you meet someone you want to get to know.
