If you are active on social media, you must have definitely heard of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The satirical political outfit, which emerged online after Chief Justice Surya Kant allegedly compared unemployed youngsters to cockroaches, has taken social media by storm. The Instagram handle of the group started by digital commentator Abhijeet Dipke has already crossed 6 million followers and is going strong. The group is now acting as a party that is demanding justice for the youth of the country. The moment had also attracted the attention of celebrities.
The Cockroach Janta Party's official Instagram page has over six million followers. It is being followed by several celebrities from the film industry as well. Among them are filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and actresses Konkona Sen Sharma, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Esha Gupta.
Several other TV personalities, including Umar Riaz, Abhishek Nigam, Uorfi Javed, Nagma Mirajkar, Purav Jha, Shafaq Naaz, and Sheezan Khan, also follow the Cockroach Janta Party on Instagram. Comedians Kunal Kamra, Raunaq Rajani and Punjabi singer-actress Himanshi Khurana have also joined the social media buzz.
A satirical political group named Cockroach Janta Party was recently launched online after Chief Justice Surya Kant reportedly compared unemployed youth to cockroaches. Founded by Abhijeet Dipke, the CJP was launched on May 16 and rapidly exploded across X and Instagram. The party gained millions of followers within days, turning what began as an internet joke into a viral political movement.
The movement was triggered by CJP's comment which he later clarified and apologised for. Instead of taking offence, Indian Gen Z and internet users reclaimed the insult. They quickly established a massive online front that amassed over 20 lakh registered members in just three days via a viral Google Form. They are not just limited to online presence, but certain groups representing the party have started on field activity as well.
The CJP's manifesto, which the party describes as "secular, socialist, democratic, lazy," includes demands such as a ban on post-retirement Rajya Sabha seats for chief justices, 50 per cent reservation for women in Parliament without increasing the strength of the House, and a 20-year election ban for defecting MLAs and MPs
