BMC officer suspended in Rs 16 crore investment scam involving Jaaved Jaaferi's wife

Actor Jaaved Jaaferi's wife, Habiba Jaaferi, was allegedly cheated of Rs 16.4 crore in an investment scheme. Amid the investigation, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has suspended Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Patil of the K-North ward for his alleged involvement in the scam. The officer is currently absconding and a manhunt has been initiated.

According to a report by NDTV, the BMC issued a suspension order against Assistant Commissioner Patil on Friday, which was served to him on Sunday, June 7.

As per the complaint, Patil and his associates convinced Habiba Jaaferi to invest in a redevelopment project in Bandra, Mumbai, with promises of high returns and substantial profits.

Reportedly, the accused also prepared fake documents to gain the victim's trust. Ever since an FIR was filed against Patil at Khar Police Station, he has been absconding. Authorities are yet to determine his whereabouts. A case of cheating has been registered against Patil and five other accused.

Considering the magnitude of the alleged scam, the case has been transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch.

Habiba Jaaferi's name surfaced in the case after she allegedly became a victim of the investment fraud. According to the complaint, she was persuaded to invest Rs 16.4 crore in a redevelopment project based on promises of significant returns.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the financial transactions and the alleged role of the accused. Police have stated that the probe is ongoing and more details are expected to emerge following further questioning and examination of financial documents.

Actor Jaaved Jaaferi has not issued a public statement regarding the case so far. Investigators are reportedly focused on recovering the allegedly cheated amount and identifying all individuals connected to the fraud. Officials have said that strict action will be taken if additional evidence of financial misconduct emerges during the investigation.

On the work front, actor Jaaved Jaaferi is set to return to television after two decades. for a dance show. He will be seen as a judge on India's Best Dancer Season 5 alongside Geetu Kapur.
