Actress Kangana Ranaut has taken a dig at Kriti Sanon, who is facing massive backlash on social media for her choice of attire in a recent Raksha Bandhan advertisement. Amid this, netizens resurfaced the actor-politician's own 2017 festive ad, in which she is wearing a strapless dress. Many called her a hypocrite for commenting on Kriti.
Now, netizens have dug out Kangana's old Raksha Bandhan advertisement, in which she is seen wearing a strapless dress. Kangana had posted the ad on X in 2017. Reacting to it, a netizen tweeted, "Is @KanganaTeam wearing a strapless bra for a Raksha Bandhan ad?" The resurfaced photo made netizens question Kangana's views on Kriti, with many calling her a hypocrite.
Reacting to it, a netizen tweeted, "Cultural shock over Kriti Sanon's act. Cultural heritage over Kangana Ranaut's act. Why?" Another X user wrote, "Dusro ko bolna aata hai bus. MP ho desh ke Liye kaam karo na per nahi usne kya pehna yeh who etc etc. Galti public ki hai jo in logo ko vote kar dete hai. (sic)."
Recently, a jewellery brand named GIVA released an ad on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, wherein Kriti is seen wearing an off-white ensemble featuring a bralette-style blouse, a cape, and a draped skirt. As the ad was out, a massive debate started on social media. A large number of netizens were of the opinion that the outfit was not suitable for a campaign revolving around a traditional Indian festival. The actress faced flak for her choice of clothing.
Kangana Ranaut too bashed her and wrote, "It's is a wonderful time to be a woman, our closets are full of variety of clothes, today's woman is a global woman, from cocktail dresses to lehnga cholis, jeans to saris, bikins to salwar kameez, from all the options that are available to us today why would you tie your brother a Rakhi in your bikini/ undergarments? Where are all your styling options? Ha ha the advert looks intentionally creepy! (sic)."
Kriti later reacted to the backlash and stressed that a woman's respect for her culture should not be judged by the clothes she wears. Amid the backlash, GIVA withdrew the advertisement from all platforms. The brand said it has "the highest regard and deep respect for Indian culture, traditions and festivals." Kangana later clarified that her criticism of Kriti Sanon's GIVA Raksha Bandhan ad was not primarily about the outfit. She objected to the lack of traditional elements, while Kriti defended the campaign's message.
