Sunita Ahuja was recently spotted at Mumbai's Bandra Family Court with her son, Yashvardhan Ahuja, sparking fresh speculation about her marriage to actor Govinda. The court visit has drawn attention because of reports that Sunita had filed a divorce petition in 2024. However, neither Sunita nor her team has issued an official statement explaining the reason for her latest visit.
According to court documents that emerged later, Sunita allegedly filed a divorce petition at the Bandra Family Court on December 5, 2024. The reported grounds included adultery, cruelty and desertion under the Hindu Marriage Act. While the filing became public months later, Govinda's lawyer and family friend Lalit Bindal confirmed in February 2025 that a divorce petition had been filed. However, he maintained that the couple were together and suggested that the marriage was not heading towards a permanent separation.
Govinda's lawyer later rejected reports suggesting that the couple were headed for an immediate split. Sunita, too, had publicly questioned the assumption that their decision to live separately meant that their marriage was over. She explained that their separate homes were linked to Govinda's political work and the family's desire to maintain privacy while their daughter was growing up.
Amid the divorce speculation, Sunita has also spoken candidly about rumours surrounding Govinda's alleged relationships with other women. "Trust is a big thing. I don't think any hero in the industry is spotless. They spend more time with heroines than with us. So it depends on your love how you take it," she said during an interaction.
She added, "I have always said to become an actor's wife you must harden your heart. I fell in love with Govinda when I was 15. Now at 56, I love him just the same. I have forgiven him many times. I may have made mistakes too."
Sunita also discussed the subject on Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa. "When you love someone, you have to tolerate everything. How many affairs has âChichi' had in life? Actors and actresses do have affairs, it's fine," she said.
The latest controversy erupted after Govinda was spotted at an airport with actress Komal Rani Swarnkar, who is associated with his upcoming film Roopa. Reacting to the viral pictures, Sunita said, "He is going around with a girl who is the same age as his daughter; shame on him."
She also questioned the timing of the film's promotions, saying, "First of all, the movie should be made. Promotion happens after the movie is complete."
For now, Sunita's court appearance has renewed questions surrounding the couple's reported 2024 divorce petition, but there is no confirmation that the visit was connected to their marriage proceedings.
