Punjabi actor-singer Rajvir Jawanda died on Wednesday morning, 11 days after he was seriously injured in a road accident. The 35-year-old was declared dead at 10:55 am, hospital authorities said. Jawanda, a rising name in the Punjabi showbiz industry, had been on life support ever since he was brought to Fortis Hospital in Mohali in an extremely critical condition.
Around 11 days ago, Rajvir was seriously injured in a road accident in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district. He was riding his motorcycle en route to Shimla on September 27 when the mishap occurred. The singer sustained severe head and spine injuries in the accident and also suffered a cardiac arrest before being shifted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali in a critical state. Upon arrival, he was immediately given emergency care, assessed by the neurosurgery team, and put on advanced life support.
Jawanda was a motor enthusiast and owned a BMW adventure bike worth Rs 25 lakh. On the day of the accident, he was on his way to Shimla when he lost control of his bike and crashed into a car. He was initially taken to Shaurya Hospital and later transferred to Fortis for advanced treatment. However, his health did not show any improvement over the last 11 days that he remained on a ventilator.
Jawanda's accident became a cause of concern among his fans and well-wishers. Even politicians from Punjab took to social media to pray for his recovery. On September 27, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann shared a post on X, wishing the singer a speedy recovery.
His post read, "Received news that famous Punjabi singer Rajvir Jawanda has sustained serious injuries in an accident that occurred near Baddi in Himachal Pradesh. His condition is stated to be quite critical. I pray to the Almighty for his speedy recovery. May he soon recover and return to his fans and family (sic)."
The singer hailed from the village of Pona in Ludhiana's Jagraon. He began his journey in the music industry in 2014 with the single Munda Like Me and rose to fame with Kali Jawande Di. He was also known for songs like Tu Dis Penda, Khush Reha Kar, Sardari, Surname, Afreen, Landlord, Down to Earth, and Kangani.
Jawanda also ventured into acting, appearing in Gippy Grewal-starrer Subedar Joginder Singh (2018), Jind Jaan (2019), and Mindo Taseeldarni (2019).
According to his official Apple Music biography, Jawanda initially aspired to become a police officer but later pursued his passion for music. Coming from a police family - his father served in the force - he also worked briefly in the department before turning to singing full-time.
