American judge Frank Caprio, popular for his rulings on the reality television show ‘Caught in Providence', has passed away at 88, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, according to the official statement on his social media account.

It was followed by message from his son David Caprio sharing the news with followers in a video, and revealing how his father had been diagnosed with the cancer two years ago, and was being treated for it since then, and fighting it for a year and a half.

The statement on his official Instagram account reads, "Judge Frank Caprio passed away peacefully at the age of 88 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer."

Reminding us of his unique qualities, it further read, "Beloved for his compassion, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, Judge Caprio touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond. His warmth, humor, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him."

"He will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. His legacy lives on in the countless acts of kindness he inspired."

"In his honor, may we each strive to bring a little more compassion into the world - just as he did every day," the statement concluded.

Only five hours before the announcement of his death, the judge's last post said he wishes to "sincerely thank each and every one of you for your prayers, love, and support while he was in the hospital. Your kindness and encouragement mean the world to him. He and his family are deeply grateful. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers today." It came a day after he posted a video about his journey since he asked people to pray for him last year, and asked his social media followers to pray for him again.
