Goregaon West burglary cracked: Mumbai Police recover gold worth Rs 10.9 lakh, arrest habitual offender

The Bangur Nagar Police have arrested an alleged habitual house-breaker and recovered 100 per cent of the stolen valuables worth over Rs 10.90 lakh from a flat in Goregaon West in Mumbai's western suburbs.

The incident came to light after Krishna Shankar Aiyar (73), a retired resident of Hariratna Varsha Society in Bangur Nagar, returned home and found his flat burgled. The theft took place between April 7 and April 9, when Aiyar and his wife were away on a pilgrimage.

According to the complaint, the accused broke the door lock, entered the flat and stole gold jewellery and cash. A first information report (FIR) was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Acting on the complaint, Bangur Nagar Police launched a probe using technical surveillance and inputs from informers. A trap was laid, leading to the arrest of the accused, identified as Parshuram Vilas Shendge (42), a resident of Oshiwara in Goregaon West.

Shendge has a long criminal history, with multiple cases of theft and house-breaking registered against him at Oshiwara and Vile Parle police stations, as well as with the DCB CID.

During interrogation, the accused led the police to the stolen property. Officers recovered 100 per cent of the stolen items, including:

The total value of the recovered property stood at Rs 10.90 lakh.

The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.

The recovery was carried out under the guidance of senior officers, including Additional Commissioner of Police Shashikumar Meena and other officers of Zone 11.

13-year-old attacks teacher during theft attempt in Thane district

A 13-year-old schoolboy allegedly stabbed a 55-year-old teacher multiple times after she caught him attempting to steal from her house in Murbad area of Thane district on Monday night.

Police said the boy broke into the house when the woman was away. When she returned and confronted him, he allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and attacked her.

Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the spot, overpowered the boy and handed him over to the police. The woman has been admitted to a hospital and is reported to be in a serious condition.

Murbad police have booked the minor for attempted murder and sent him to a remand home. Inspector Sachin Hundlekar confirmed the incident.
