A fire broke out at a shopping centre in Mumbai's Borivali area on Friday afternoon, officials said, adding that a firefighting operation was launched after receiving the information regarding the blaze.
The fire triggered panic among shoppers and locals.
According to initial reports, the blaze erupted at Annex Mall located near the Western Express Highway (WEH).
Soon after the fire was reported, officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade rushed to the location and began firefighting operations.
Police and civic officials also reached the spot to assist in crowd control and safety measures around the shopping centre.
"The fire broke out at Annex Mall at around 2 pm on Friday. Officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade rushed to the spot with eight fire tenders to control the blaze. One person who was trapped inside a gym in the mall was safely rescued by the fire brigade. No casualties have been reported in the incident so far," an official said.
The officials the exact cause of the fire was being investigated.
Officials are expected to conduct a detailed inspection after the situation is fully brought under control.
There was no immediate information about injuries or casualties.
The incident affected traffic movement near the Western Express Highway area as emergency vehicles and fire engines were deployed at the site.
Firefighters were carrying out cooling operations at the site.
