Ahead of the Ganeshotsav 2026, the Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board, in association with the Industries Department, will organise an Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idol Painting Festival 2026 in Mumbai on Tuesday, September 8, an official statement said on Monday.
The event will be held at the Trimurti Courtyard at Mantralaya from 11 am to 2 pm. The initiative aims to raise awareness about environmentally friendly ways of celebrating Ganeshotsav.
As part of the festival, citizens will get an opportunity to paint eco-friendly Ganesh idols.
The idols are being made by the Hand-made Paper Institute in Pune using paper pulp produced from white cloth waste. The institute also makes eco-friendly lanterns.
The Khadi Board said the initiative is aimed at promoting sustainable products while creating wider markets for products made by rural and micro entrepreneurs.
Along with the Ganesh idol painting activity, an exhibition and sale of Khadi garments and 'Madhuban' honey will also be held at the venue.
The Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board provides guidance, encouragement and marketing support to rural and micro entrepreneurs.
The Hand-made Paper Institute in Pune, which operates under the board, is a historic institution involved in producing different types of eco-friendly handmade paper products.
The main objective of the Ganesh festival is to spread awareness about environmental protection and encourage citizens to adopt eco-friendly practices during Ganeshotsav.
The organisers said such initiatives can help promote environmentally friendly idols and other sustainable products while supporting rural enterprises.
Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board chairman Ravindra Sathe and chief executive officer Laxman Raut appealed to citizens to participate in large numbers and support the message of an eco-friendly Ganeshotsav.
