The Central Railway (CR) on Thursday announced the temporary cancellation of several long-distance and intercity trains after heavy rainfall triggered multiple landslides on the Lonavala-Karjat Section in Maharashtra, severely disrupting operations.

As per an official statement from the Central Railway, incessant rainfall on Monday caused landslides at multiple locations along the crucial ghat section, affecting all three railway lines. Restoration work is currently underway, but officials said the extensive damage and difficult working conditions are likely to delay the resumption of normal services.

To avoid last-minute cancellations and help passengers plan their journeys better, the railway administration has decided to cancel several trains in advance until July 17.

Senior Central Railway officials are stationed at the site to monitor restoration work, with teams working round the clock to restore operations at the earliest.
